VFX
As part of my tasks, I am helping to create effects for our trailer. The two tasks that I was assigned to make were fireworks and wind for a few scenes. These are the final rendered effects for our trailer. While I used Houdini to create them it was originally my intent to make these effects happen in Maya in an attempt to cut down our render time. Unfortunatly the effects in Maya did not come out the way we hoped.
The video on the left is from Houdini and the video on the right is from Maya. While the Houdini fireworks would have been my first choice especially when it came to the original shot. Since we got ride of the original and it is only a shot of the fireworks now I think the one in Maya would be the best option. They are a lot brighter and match the look we want for the trailer.
This is my test of wind in Houdini. I was able to figure out that this is the best way to go when it comes to doing the wind in our trailer. It came out much better than our Maya test.

This was the best test of wind in Maya that I was able to come up with. I did not meet any of the standards or ideas of how it would look. This made it very clear that if we wanted the wind to actually work then we would need to do it in Houdini.
These are a few other tests in Houdini that I tried. The one on the left is a test of cloth, which is for the posters that we have in one of the shots. The one on the right is just for an idea of how Carol and Jupiter could turn to nothing. We decided not to use this.
